Alternative Fuel and Advanced Production Experience

Quantum has designed, developed, and validated CNG, bi-fuel (gasoline/CNG), LPG, and hydrogen fuel systems and vehicles since 1997, during which time 20,000 systems have been produced and sold.

Demonstration Vehicles

GM Chevrolet Equinox hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle:  development and supply of complete 10,000 psi (70 MPa) hydrogen fuel systems for over 100 Equinox vehicles to be demonstrated as part of GM’s Project Driveway.

GM Sequel hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle:  development and supply of complete 10,000 psi (70 MPa) hydrogen fuel system that enabled the Sequel to achieve a real-world driving range of 300 miles, becoming the world’s first fuel cell vehicle to achieve that milestone.

GM Hy-Wire hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle:  development of hydrogen fuel storage modules complete with pressure regulation assemblies.

GM-Opel Zafira hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle:  development of 10,000 psi (70 MPa) hydrogen fuel storage modules complete with pressure regulation assemblies.

TARDEC diesel hybrid vehicle: development of V-22 Osprey transportable hybrid with silent drive mode.

Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles

Quantum specializes in development and integration of electric vehicles such as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).

Historical Examples:

  • Quantum completed development of a PHEV version of the Ford Escape Hybrid.
  • Quantum completed development of a PHEV version of the Ford F150.

Current Examples:

  • Quantum is providing fully productionized software and controls, complete with OBD-II, UDS, and TUV certification for a production premium PHEV OEM.

Test and Validation

Quantum testing and validation service capabilities are extensive and well suited to complete vehicle development. Our R&D efforts over the past fifteen years have produced many state-of-the-art products, and led to the creation of facilities and technical expertise to advance the total integration concept.

Quantum’s vehicle test and validation capabilities include:

  • SULEV emission certification testing using AVL 48” AC chassis dynamometer
  • AVL 670-HP Eddy current engine dynamometer cells
  • Custom designed High-Power electrical motoring dynamometer
  • Pressure cycling and burst test facilities for development and test of high-pressure gaseous fuel storage tanks
  • Aerovironment AV900 high voltage and current power cycling equipment for batteries and electric machines
  • Environmental testing to ISO, Mil-Spec, SAE, and ASTM standards such as: thermal and vibration testing, as well as cyclic, corrosion, salt, and fog
